A while back I was contacted by a man living in Nice, France wanting to use Vision of Lilith on a CD of his. After conversing with him I agreed for him to use the image so long as I was credited on the album sleeve and he send me a copy of the CD. Back in February he sent me the CD to my house down in Texas and my mother never sent it on to me up here so I just got it in my hands last week. Total awesomeness!!!!!!!!! The bonus is that I also like the music. It's chamber music. *grin*

We're home!

My daughter is all graduated and partied and in Dallas ready to start at the Art Institute. 3 1/2 years to her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree.

I'm SOOO happy to be back up here where I'm not so friggin miserable because of the heat. As soon as we got to where the weather was hot hot I swelled up and started hurting bad and it didn't stop till it was night time in Colorado last night driving through.

That's all for now, we have a lot of unpacking to do. Later I'll post more including some bitching about road conditions... fucking orange cones...

We're in Texas now. We're just down here to get the rest of our stuff and my oldest daughter is graduating. Going back to Wyoming next week.

I want links for the blog roll on my new word press blog. http://wolfrose.com/gwen
also syndicated [livejournal.com profile] ghwendolyn if you want to keep up with it. I think it's just going to be random rambling. The stuff about my personal life will remain here behind locked entries. ;-)

Do you have a public blog? I'm talking about a blog that isn't really LJ (it can be though) and is something you post in regularly. With newsish informative kind of stuff. Give me the URL!

Of course if you have a website that isn't a blog feel free to tell me about it too, I've got a place for regular links on there as well.

DAMN! I swore to myself around 10pm last night I would crawl my ass in bed and TRY to get some sleep...

The Style Contest for Movable Type, Typepad and LiveJournal Parker has some designs entered. Please do vote even though the popularity has nothing to do with winning the contest. Some folks have gone in and just put low votes on anything that isn't their design. (kinda like the people at rosity who have their non posering friends go vote for their graphic to get into the hot 20) It doesn't seem to bother Parker as he won't vote at all, but it irks me. (most likely because of it reeking of the rosity hot 20 thing)

To see all the styles click here. You can vote for each one by clicking on "more info".

A few things have aggravated me while he's been working on these. For example, their html code isn't as clean as it could be and inconsistent. When Parker pointed out something that was inconsistent the person responsible for the online display responded with the code is W3C compliant and he felt there was no reason to add in the "extra tag". Never mind the fact that this was the only instance in the whole thing that they did not have the "extra tag". Incidentally the "extra tag" is used to clear a float so the div doesn't collapse. Again, it is the only page that doesn't have the "extra tag".

The most annoying thing however is mid contest these people decide to change the files they used at the beginning of the contest. They did this to accommodate the LJ whiners about not having LJ user pix. At the beginning they stated that when the contest was over they would work with the winners to code in the elements specific to each platform (LJ, Typepad, MovableType) as each one has different elements that are not needed by the other (like LJ user pix). That in itself wouldn't be so bad since Parker has downloaded the new file (which is the one that needs the "extra tag" to clear the float for the LJ user pic) and made adjustments to his designs. What makes it infuriating is that they haven't changed the code they are displaying the styles online to the new code. So some of the styles that have been updated and/or designed with the new files do not show as designed on the website.

I'm really of the opinion that once a contest had started they should not have changed the files they wanted you to work with. However now that they have they should FIX what they've broken properly and use the new code to display the styles.

I also think they should have been more clear about what they were looking for. They don't just want "skins" over the same old blog looking format, they are looking for people to do CSS Zen Garden type stuff. Which is another reason they should listen to designers when they tell them that moving a tag would open up the design possibilities and that an "extra tag" to clear a float is needed to not break designs... especially when the "extra tag" is already used on all the other pages.

I'm not entering. I was considering it till they changed the files mid contest. I'm already too pissed off about that and then CSS is something that pisses me off when I have to wrap my brain around it for more than just basic stuff. I can't take that kind of stress right now. I'm dealing with getting ready to go back down to Texas in about three weeks for my daughter's graduation and to bring the rest of our belongings from down there up here. Stressed doesn't really even begin to cover all that...

I'm trying to make some graphics for a friend and Poser is being an ass! I got everything set and tried to render and my whole monitor went black. I had to cold boot the damn computer. I don't know yet if the file survived that since it is time for my weekly NortonAV scan and I really can't run any RAM hogging programs while the scan is going. Hopefully this was just a fluke...

Sometimes I really hate technology!

Raise your hand if you're surprised at all that the Rat Bastard hasn't paid a dime in child support since March 21.

Yeah, me either.

Incidentally that March 21st check was a whopping $12.63 to arrive at a grand total of $33.47 for the whole month of March. It's just a damn good thing I don't count on that check for anything other than amusement of how little he pays. I do still feel for Audra in that area since she gets less than I do and has three kids. Not that he pays her total amount per month either.

Ah, and for those new folks on my friends list, this is a verboten subject. I'm not allowed to bitch about Jimmy the Rat Bastard in my own damn journal as per the demands of the Psycho Stalker aka [livejournal.com profile] mysticblushadow aka [livejournal.com profile] thewillow_witch. As you can see I think she can go fuck herself with her demands on what I can and can not post in my own damn journal. She's the reason my journal is locked.

IT WORKS!

Hours spent on Google worked out and now I have the resolution setting in the old Radeon X300 video card that came with this computer. I can again delay buying a new video card till I can afford the one I really want. *grin*

I found some software called PowerStip that lets you put custom resolutions into your video card settings. Some people have to leave the program running and some can get away with setting the new settings and turning the program off. If you don't have to have the program running for your screen to look right then you don't even have to keep the software on your computer, you can uninstall it. I don't have to keep the program as everything works fine without it and now I have the right resolution and my screen looks AWESOME! I would have gladly paid the $29.95 to register the program if I would have had to keep it though since that is cheaper than buying a new video card to do the same thing. ;-)

I'm so happy!

Well frak!

I got a new monitor. Which is a wonderful thing. I so love Tiger Direct! I got a beautiful 19" LCD widescreen. There is a problem though... I need a better graphics card now. We already knew I would eventually need a better one and now I need it to use this monitor properly. The problem is that this graphic card doesn't have a 1440x900 setting which the monitor recommends to use. I can either set it at 1280x768 which makes everything a bit big or 1920x1200 which makes everything a bit too small. I'm set at 1280x768. My old setting on the old 17" monitor was 1280x1024. This is going to take some getting used to till I can get that new graphics card. This bites! I can't really play with my new toy... *pout*

eh hem...
