You know people, if I ever did go to a public ritual I would have to buy a robe because to date I don't own one...

This tidbit brought to you by this thread on [livejournal.com profile] nonfluffypagans

Heh, make one like my "public" robe. One long strip of silk with a neckhole in the middle, belted at the waist. Next best thing to being nekkid :-P

To robe or not to robe

This is just one more of a very *long* list of reasons I don't do public ritual anymore, although I have been sorely tempted to sew up a robe of sky material and get some bear slippers, so I could be sky-clad and bear-foot *grin* (an idea that Rick C put in my head many, many years ago!)

*snerk*

Maybe I should have you make some for me. Although, for the Pagan Pride ritual, I just wear normal clothes.

I guess I'm just boring.

Nah, your not boring! The last public rituals I went to where the Beltaines you and Joe use to do on LI, for obvious reasons that you know all to well, I don't go to them anymore *sighs*

Besides, we *ALWAYS* wore regular clothes! Times are changing to be sure.

and I am still thinking about make that rug *grin*

*smiles* Yeah it does, maybe one of these days I will actually make it, I have the plan figured out, just have to get through all my other sewing and knitting projects first. Those were good days indeed.

Okay, I do go to public ritual, but I don't have a robe. I usually wear whatever I wore to work that day, unless I'm officiating. Even if I'm officiating, I tend to wear a nice dress that seems appropriate to the ritual.

Of course, I do the same with the coven that I work with. I'm just not a robe kind of girl. Unless it's my warm, fluffy one on a cold evening.

Ahhh, but there is a difference! If I was still in Colorado, I would most likely be going to the public rituals. People in CO, at least back when I lived in Colorado Springs 10 years ago, actually had a clue, and I still miss Grand Coven *sighs*

Here on the east coase, as Jackie can attest, the public stuff tends to be ran by the clueless. Fluffy-bunny would be an elevation for them to be honest. Thankfully, there is not much energy raised, so no one really gets into trouble, I just chose not to be around the silliness. I went to one Beltaine ritual, BELTAINE mine you, where they decided to do an angel ritual???? I had to leave the circle because I was laughing so hard, and I didn't want to be respectful, they actually thought they were doing something for Beltaine! Lets not talk about the mating of the God and Goddess and their marriage...nooooooo...that might be *gasp* sexual!

When I do go to public stuff, I tend to wear a nice dress or skirt, nothing incredibly "witchy", I don't own anything witchy actually, black is not my color *grin*

Ah. Too bad you missed the "Jesus" ritual last year at Ostara. Not at Grand Coven, thank goodness. And the officiant misled those of us on the Board, otherwise we would have advised him to rethink his ritual. As it was, the ritual evoked many emotions -- most of them angry.

We've managed to gather quite a number of fluffy-bunnies around here lately too.

hehehe I've a pair of blue and white cloud print PJ bottoms that I've worn at a pagan gathering, and claimed it was my 'skyclad' gear. :)

Around here, people are generally wearing jeans and t-shirts at a public ritual.

I'm just reading the Witchvox article now, then I'll read the nonfluffypagans comments, but (initial thoughts and because I feel like ranting)...

What the hell. I don't give a rat's ass what the general public thinks of my religion anymore, as long as they aren't infringing upon my rights to practice it.

If someone wants to wear a robe of some sort and it helps them get into the mindset to step between the worlds, then more power to them. Someone else may scoff that I use incense at ritual - because it's really the same damn thing. The trappings are all about triggering yourself to "get there".

And if it's a mock-renaissance robe? And it portrays more of Hollywood's idea than reality and history?

So????? I'm not a fucking recon.

(P.S. I do have a robe. It's pretty much what Inanna describes, but in silver panne velvet, because that's what was on sale at the time. I've never worn it to a public ritual, but I used to wear it to coven rituals)
