Why do otherwise intelligent people believe outlandish bullshit when election season comes around???

I mean come on, if Obama wasn't born in Hawaii don't you think Fox News would have been all over that already? Don't you think Hillary would have jumped on that? Do you honestly believe he would have gotten this far? Smarter, sneakier people have already vetted all that shit and if there were anything there it would have already blown up all over the place.

Who gives a shit about how much the RNC spent to put clothes on Palin!!!! Do we talk about how much the suits the guys wear cost??? Think they wear the same suit everyday?

What I care about is that eight years ago we had a projected surplus and now we are borrowing money from CHINA!

We're supposed to be the greatest nation on Earth! What the hell are we doing watching our middle class become the poverty class while job after job is outsourced to another country and the corporation doing it gets a big fat tax cut in reward? And why does anyone believe it's a good idea???

I think it's crap so I will not vote Republican thank you very much. Oh, and yes, I have voted for Republicans before. I vote issues not party and I diligently research before I make up my mind. I do lean a bit left of center but I'm not a left wing liberal by no means. I actually wish there weren't such a thing as big political parties. I wish more people could think for themselves instead of needing a party to tell them what to think.

What’s amusing is that no one from Obama's campaign is haranguing about the clothing.

Its the newscasters who are taking it on. But several years ago, it was the Republicans did ride Edwards about a haircut.

And the opposition brought up the costs of Bill Clinton's suit over and over.

So if the press wants to make a lot over Palin's clothing .../shrug

But you are right, I wish they would focus on the obvious blind bull shit from McCain.

It is good Obama's campaign hasn't said anything about Palin's clothes, since Obama has used some $800,000 in campaign funds for personal flights to visit hawaii. Saving the environment one jet trip at a time apparently.

I was under the impression that it was also the media that talked of Edward's and Clinon's spending, but I guess "the republicans" is a pretty broad term.

Wow, that is impressive cluelessness.

Just because you don't like something doesn't make it wrong.

This is yet another thing that pisses me off. Why should this even be an issue? How is he supposed to fly a commercial airline? Do you really think the secret service would even allow that? It's not even like he was running off to go play on the beach either, HIS GRANDMOTHER IS DYING for crying out loud.

What's interesting is that she doesn't want to believe FactCheck (which is actually very balanced) and yet leaves a reference for this site, which is very slanted.

I'm not believing anything in regards to Obama being born in Hawaii or not, because he won't physically release his birth certificate for anyone he hasn't given 60 million dollars to.

I do want to know why the fact he gave up his citizenship when he moved to Indonesia as a child doesn't matter though, because that is real, and proven with his school paperwork.

Date: 2008-10-29 08:36 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] gwenwolfrose.livejournal.com
Indonesia is a 3rd world country and it was at a time in history where documentation wasn't even exact here in the states. I have medical records from when I was a child with a last name that wasn't mine in any legal sense. I started school with that last name as well.

This school paperwork is also the basis for claiming he is a Muslim. Trust me, anyone would put Muslim on their child's paperwork if they were living in a predominantly Muslim country. That they also put his last name the same as both parents at that time isn't at all out of the ordinary either. When someone produces actual legal government paperwork then I'll believe it. Handwritten school ledgers from a school in a 3rd world country do not prove that he was adopted or that he gave up his US citizenship. Besides, a minor US citizen cannot lose his citizenship because of his parents, he has to actively renounce his citizenship.

Parents cannot renounce U.S. citizenship on behalf of their minor children. Before an oath of renunciation will be administered under Section 349(a)(5) of the INA, a person under the age of eighteen must convince a U.S. diplomatic or consular officer that he/she fully understands the nature and consequences of the oath of renunciation, is not subject to duress or undue influence, and is voluntarily seeking to renounce his/her U.S. citizenship.

I don't care if he is muslim or not. Most likely it was said he was Muslim because his Muslim step father had adopted him, not because that was his actual religion. Personally I find the church he actually attended the last 20 years way scarier than Islam. Regardless, I know people personally that went to school in Islamic countries and didn't renounce their faith, and had no problems because of it.

People get snotty and tell me to read the constitution and post cute little macros like I'm just retaining random opinions that have long been dubunked, and yeah, this campaign it's been a common theme to just beat down and call someone stupid for questioning Obama but come on?

When the judge dismissed the lawsuit he essentially said 'someone would have caught this by now if it were true' Huh?

This isn't a republican vs democrat thing. The person that brought the lawsuit forward was a democrat albeit a Hillary supporting democrat. In the future it could be a republican skirting around the laws and stomping the rules, and no doubt people will be furious and crying conspiracy.

I do hope that it is all fake and stupid. I'm not a petty person. I'd like to believe we have a system and it works. There is a lot of hiding going on in regards to Obama and releasing his school records and birth certificate (as in actually releasing, not posting on ones website or giving to a single group with which there is a large conflict of interest) that I personally don't understand, partly because McCain had no problem doing same.

I simply have a lot of questions that Obama himself would need to address and prove, not random websites like snopes and factcheck. It's great people would essentially bet their life on snopes, but having studied history at great length, honestly nothing would surprise me in regards to what sounds crazy actually being totally true. Stranger things have happened for sure.

A similar lawsuit was brought against McCain and was dismissed on the same grounds, namely that it's a bullshit lawsuit.

I happen to know that you can buy anything in a 3rd world country for a carton of cigs. Remember that my husband spent 22 years in the Navy most of that spent in the Pacific theater. A handwritten ledger from a school in Indonesia means jack shit.

Yaknow, according to Snopes, which is usually pretty dang accurate, everything is squared away regarding Obama's citizenship and eligibility. Including a link to be able to see his birth certificate.

According to FactCheck.org: Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982. There you go: The reason it doesn't matter? He had dual citizenship, and one of them was expired.

Indonesia did not recognize dual citizenship at that time, therefore he could no longer be a US citizen if he were attending school there.

Since when does a third world country get to overrule our constitution? He did not renounce his citizenship and parents can not do that on behalf of their children. A minor US citizen cannot lose his citizenship because of his parents, he has to actively renounce his citizenship.

Parents cannot renounce U.S. citizenship on behalf of their minor children. Sometimes people are educated beyond 'fact check' sites that have been given 60 million dollars by Obama.

Yes. Sometimes people are educated by their own personal bias, and sometimes they're educated by common sense. Guess which school you went to?

Date: 2008-10-29 02:34 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] fionnulaharp.livejournal.com
A child cannot give up his citizenship. A parent cannot give up a child's citizenship for that child. Moving to another country as a child does not relinquish your citizenship. The school paperwork does not prove anything of the sort. Perhaps you should read the Constitution and the citizenship laws.

well that was childish ...

Of course Obama would not have made it this far if he wasn't a citizen. I agree with you on outsourcing, and think the answer is penalty tariffs on any and all products companies who do that try to import into the US.

I couldn't believe we were borrowing money from China, of all places. Too much of our money is already going over there since so many people by cheap, toxic, plastic crap from there at Wal-mart.

How about a Letterman style Top 10 list of reasons why you won't vote Republican?

It might be difficult to cut it down to ten. LOL It's a grand idea though, have to give it some thought.

Good to see you posting here again. Miss you woman.

Miss you too, and am happy with the election results. I saw what happened in your state. How dod you deal with being surrounded by that? I know where you lived before, but dang!
